There are 13 species of egrets, including four species: great egret, medium egret, little egret and yellow-billed egret.

1. Great egret.


Inhabits lakes, river flats, marshes and other wetlands. They often live in groups with other heron birds.


They feed on aquatic animals such as fish, shrimp, frogs, snails and insects.


Nests are made of dead twigs and hay and filled with weeds and leaves. Three to four eggs are laid in each nest, and the male and female raise the young together.


2. Medium egret.


They live in open river valleys, lakes, swamps and often in groups or mixed groups with other herons. Four eggs are usually laid in each nest.


3. Little egret.


In winter, feathers are usually completely shed and irises are yellow. The exposed part of the face is yellowish green, the mouth is black, the mouth cleft and the base of the lower mouth is yellowish. Tibia and feet black, toe angles yellowish green.


Usually one foot is curled under the abdomen, and only one foot is independent. Daytime foraging, good food small fish, frogs, shrimp and insects.


Both sexes participate in nesting. The next year, they often come to the old nest to repair and use. Their eggs are blue-green with smooth shells.


4. Yellow-billed heron.


It is a medium-sized wading bird, 46-65 cm long and weighing 320-650 g, with slightly smaller females.


There is also a big difference between summer and winter plumage, in summer the mouth is orange, the feet are black, the toes are yellow and the eyes are blue.


In winter, the mouth turns dark brown, the bottom of the lower mouth is yellow, the eyes are yellow-green, the feet are yellow-green, and the feathers on the back, shoulders, and front neck are lost.

1. They often stand with one foot in the water, the other tucked into their belly, and their heads tucked back into a hump. When walking, the gait is light and steady, appears to be leisurely.


2. Feathers as white as snow, with a few feathers on the chest, waist and the base of the thighs. They can continue to grow and the tips will automatically and constantly break into powder particles.


These powder particles play a role in cleaning feathers and, like talcum powder, will constantly remove dirt that has stuck to the body.


3. While hunting, it wades gently through the water, watches the small animals swimming in the water for a moment, and then suddenly pecks the water with its long beak, accurately landing the food in its mouth.
