As we set off on our adventure to Lake Antono, nestled in the stunning Dolomites of Italy, we couldn’t help but feel a surge of excitement.
This hidden gem, known for its crystal-clear waters and breathtaking mountain views, promised a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Our trip to Lake Antono began in the charming town of Auronzo di Cadore. From there, we took a scenic drive along winding mountain roads, surrounded by towering peaks and lush forests. The drive alone was an experience, offering glimpses of alpine meadows and sparkling streams. After about 30 minutes, we arrived at the parking area near the lake, where we were greeted by the sight of turquoise waters reflecting the majestic mountains.
Lake Antono is known for its serene beauty, and we spent hours soaking it all in. The lake is surrounded by well-marked hiking trails, perfect for exploring the diverse flora and fauna of the area. One popular trail is the loop around the lake, which takes about an hour to complete. As we walked, we encountered various viewpoints that offered breathtaking panoramas—ideal spots for photography enthusiasts!
The lake itself is accessible year-round, with no entrance fee, making it an affordable option for outdoor lovers. In the warmer months, swimming is a popular activity, while winter transforms the landscape into a snowy wonderland perfect for snowshoeing.
After our hike, we were eager to try some local cuisine. We headed to a nearby trattoria, where we were thrilled to discover a menu filled with traditional dishes. One standout was the canederli, hearty bread dumplings typically served in broth. A generous portion costs around €10. We also enjoyed polenta, a staple of the region, served with mushrooms and cheese for about €12.
For dessert, we couldn’t resist the strudel di mele, a warm apple strudel that delighted our taste buds for just €5. The combination of flavors and the cozy atmosphere made for a perfect end to our meal.
For those planning to visit Lake Antono, here are some practical tips:
• Getting There: The nearest major city is Bolzano, about a two-hour drive away. We recommend renting a car to explore the scenic routes.
• Opening Hours: The lake is open year-round, but the best time to visit is between May and October for warm weather and hiking opportunities.
• Parking: There is ample parking available near the lake, but it can fill up quickly during peak season, so arriving early is advisable.
• What to Bring: Don’t forget your hiking boots, water, and sunscreen. A camera is a must to capture the stunning landscapes!
Lykkers, our visit to Lake Antono was nothing short of magical. The natural beauty, combined with delicious local food and friendly hospitality, made for an unforgettable experience. Whether you’re an avid hiker or just looking to relax by the water, Lake Antono has something for everyone. We can’t wait to return and explore more of the Dolomites!
